I am Hin-Yiu Tang, a Toronto-based menswear designer with a focus on construction, material research, and pattern engineering. My work often starts with a thesis the garment has to prove: whether a copper weave can extend a jacket's lifespan, whether the pattern alone can deliver full range of motion, how much material choice changes drape when the pattern stays the same. Through CLO3D simulation and physical construction, I develop wardrobes built for daily wear that age intentionally. Creasing, softening, fraying: these are designed outcomes, not decay. Every seam is positioned for movement, every curve serves fit, nothing is decoration.

Focus
I am particularly interested in what happens after
the garment leaves the studio. Whether through
wear-testing a jacket for months, washing a linen
shirt until the raw hems fray, or cutting the same
pattern in two materials to see how differently
they move, I work with processes that let the
material answer back. Simulation can predict
stress points, but only the body confirms them.
Making, by hand on industrial machines, remains
at the center of my work. I am fascinated by the
parts of a garment nobody sees: interior facings,
the underside of a pleat, a seam placed exactly
where the arm rotates. Alongside this, I design for
the long arc, choosing fabrics that soften, crease,
and mark with wear, so the garment keeps a record
of its use.
I am drawn to the engineering inside familiar
silhouettes: a Type II jacket, a cargo trouser, a plain
longsleeve, each rebuilt so every line earns its

Fun facts about me
Other than fashion, I do have a life. I had a great
time living in New York City working as an Atelier
Designer at Kozaburo and I had the pleasure of
participating in the CFDA Genesis House AAPI
Design + Innovation Grant. I have two cats, an
american shorthair I adopted and a british shorthair.
I love to cook, my favorite cuisines are vietnamese
and korean. I'm really into tech, hardware specifically.
I appologize for mentioning fashion again but I do
enjoy fashion history a lot...
